The new location will focus on dynamic random access memory (DRAM) product development and information technology operations.

Semiconductor manufacturing company Micron Technology Inc. announced plans to establish a new engineering and operations center in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico, as part of its global expansion strategy.

The Mexico engineering and operations center will be dedicated to product development for Micron memory solutions and information technology operations. Additionally, team members at the new headquarters will collaborate with the company's existing teams and operations in the United States.

“Mexico has a strong business ecosystem, spanning the semiconductor and technology industries, as well as a highly talented workforce,” said Scott DeBoer, executive vice president of technology and products at Micron Technology. “The Mexico Engineering and Operations Center complements Micron's current product engineering efforts in North America. We are confident that our presence in Mexico will improve our ability to offer cutting-edge solutions to our clients, contributing to our growth and leadership in the industry.”

The expansion into Mexico is part of the company's strategy to expand its access to the global engineering talent required to develop the next-generation products needed to meet AI-driven demands. Micron's plans for its Engineering and Operations Center in Mexico depend on government support.

"Mexico offers a broad range of technical talent in a new location, which will further strengthen Micron's leadership and innovation," said April Arnzen, executive vice president and chief people officer of Micron Technology. "Given Mexico's proximity to our U.S. operations and similar time zones, our new Engineering and Operations Center will create strong opportunities for closer collaboration with teams across North America."

Final site selection in Guadalajara is underway. Hiring will accelerate in fall 2024, with Micron's goal of hiring more than 100 team members by the end of 2024 and additional growth in the coming years.

The new engineering and operations center—the first of its kind for Micron in Latin America—is an addition to the company's Global Product Development and IT/Operations Centers around the world. These sites execute the company's product and technology development roadmaps, while providing a broad portfolio of global support service functions.

Micron will continue to invest in all of these sites, aligning with its plans to meet long-term memory opportunities.
