7 challenges that managers in organizations must face
Tuesday, December 1, 2020 - 11:00

In times of pandemic, and until normality returns, the ideal is that the goals that each of the workers must achieve are as realistic as possible.

Without a doubt, teleworking is something that is here to stay and, most likely, many organizations will adopt it in a hybrid way. That is, through a shift system, a company's collaborators will be able to alternately work from home and in person.

This is stated by the general manager of HumanNet , Claudio Oyarzún, who adds that “Since the pandemic began, many companies have reduced their offices or plan to do so in the short term. In fact, the above is generating a significant increase in the vacancy of square meters to be rented.”

However, for this executive, not only that has caused the emergence of teleworking in the world of work, as a consequence of the Coronavirus. In addition, he adds, it has posed a series of challenges to managers who - remotely - must daily guide, motivate, coordinate and communicate with their subordinates in order to achieve the objectives set.

Among the current challenges that management levels in organizations must face, Oyarzún mentions the following:

  1. Remote leadership . The current times, where teleworking has been imposed in several sectors and positions, requires managers who have the ability to guide subordinates remotely, relying on existing videoconferencing tools, such as Zoom and Teams, to name a few. . Additionally, they require communication skills that allow them to motivate and persuade employees, bringing out the best in them and putting it at the service of the company.
  2. Ability to form teams . Given that remote work implies, in some way, having a lower degree of in-person supervision of the staff in charge, it is essential for bosses to build solid work teams that can act in a coordinated and more independent manner.
  3. Greater availability . This online work modality can sometimes also imply more time for management to respond to employees' requirements or queries, depending on the sector or industry in question.
  4. Effective communication . It is key to have the ability to clearly transmit the established tasks, objectives and deadlines. Along with communicating adequately, it is important that management levels have the ability to listen to their staff and be empathetic, in order to achieve better performance from them.
  5. Realistic and measurable goals. In times of pandemic, and until normality returns, the ideal is that the goals that each of the workers must achieve are as realistic as possible and, at the same time, easy to measure. The above, so that frustration is not generated in the staff and there is adequate monitoring of the expected results.
  6. Empower collaborators. Remote performance requires managers to empower their collaborators and give more powers so that they can work more independently and with more decision-making power.
  7. Management of ICT tools . A manager who operates in the current health crisis scenario must master office automation tools very well in order to achieve better performance and management in the exercise of his or her position.
