This was stated by the president of the CPC, Ricardo Mewes, in a radio interview this Wednesday, in which he warned about the public order problems that plague the country and the high unemployment rates as the main problems for Chile today.

The Confederation of Production and Commerce of Chile (CPC), the main business organization in this country, has once again insisted that raising taxes is not good for Chile, neither for its companies nor for people, which is why it has asked to focus on discussions about the security crisis and the lack of economic growth, among other issues.

This was stated by the president of the CPC, Ricardo Mewes, in a radio interview this Wednesday, in which he warned about the public order problems that plague the country and the high unemployment rates as the main problems for Chile today.

For the Chilean businessman, the tax system must be "competitive" with respect to the rest of the countries in the region. For this reason, he believes that the measures being debated in Congress about raising taxes could weaken the stock market and add complexity to the fiscal framework.

"Here there is an urgent need to recover economic growth, investment and employment. These measures that are being proposed clearly go in the opposite direction," said Mewes.

The measures that should be put on the table are those that are in favor of economic growth and, in the opinion of the CPC, not all of those that are being talked about "are along those lines."

"That worries us. Chile needs to grow and attract investment so that we can really generate more jobs, something that is not happening today. We see that everything is idling there. The economy is not growing, and that can really complicate us in the medium and long term," the businessman has warned.

INVESTMENTS AND SECURITY

Another of the topics that Mewes focused on during the interview is insecurity, which is leading some companies to take the initiative to protect themselves against crime by some groups.

Consequently, Mewes has pointed out that a "tremendously complex" debate remains ahead since this situation must be prevented from generating disincentives for investment and for international businessmen who are considering putting their resources in Chile.

"The first thing you are going to do is be clear about the security of your company. This is of great concern to everyone who wants to invest and is a brake, without a doubt, on industrial activities or tourism," he stated. .
