Guatemala: former spokesperson for the Public Ministry found tied hand and foot

The spokesperson for the Public Ministry, Ana Lucía Alejos Botrán, was found tied hand and foot at noon this Wednesday in a field in Lo de Dieguéz, Fraijanes, according to lifeguards.

Alejos's feet and hands were tied, and he also had bruises and burns on his face.

After the discovery, lifeguards transferred Alejos Botrán to a private healthcare center where he is recovering from his injuries.

Preliminarily, it was indicated that Alejos had been kidnapped, but no further details were specified.

Alejos Botrán was spokesperson for former prosecutor Carlos de León Argueta, during the administration of Alfonso Portillo.

Her ex-husband, Rafael Castillo, accused her of having plotted an attack against her, with the support of De León. Apparently, Alejos was a victim of domestic violence.

The former spokesperson for the Public Ministry was also a candidate for deputy for the metropolitan district for the Alianza Nueva Nación (ANN) party in 2007.
