Specifically, this is the fourth signature - held within the framework of the Brazilian Offshore Wind Summit 2024 - of this nature carried out by Neoenergia, its Brazilian subsidiary.

Iberdrola, through its Brazilian subsidiary Neoenergia, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Government of Rio de Janeiro for the development of studies that promote the future execution of offshore wind energy generation projects. on the coast of the State.

Specifically, this is the fourth signature - held within the framework of the Brazilian Offshore Wind Summit 2024 - of this nature carried out by Neoenergia for the development of offshore wind generation in the South American country, the company reported.

The energy company controlled by Iberdrola is also carrying out studies to promote and evaluate the viability of offshore wind energy in other states of the country, such as Rio Grande do Sul or Ceará.

Neoenergia's Renewable Director, Laura Porto, highlighted that the company has "the legacy of being a pioneer" in the development of onshore wind energy generation in the country, although she considered that it is important for Brazil to "prepare and position itself" for the development of offshore wind.

"For the growth of this new market, it is necessary to define a regulatory framework capable of providing legal and regulatory certainty, in addition to guaranteeing the most assertive allocation of investments," he said.

The acting secretary of Energy and Marine Economy of Rio de Janeiro, Felipe Peixoto, stated that the alliance with Neoenergia, a pioneer in onshore wind generation in the country, "will be of great value for the State to promote offshore wind energy in the future." .

The Brazilian Government's roadmap identifies a potential of around 700 gigawatts (MW) for offshore wind off the coast of the South American country.

Offshore wind is one of the big bets for growth in renewables in Iberdrola's strategic plan to 2027, presented last week to the market, with more than 50% of the investments of US$ 16,803 million -US$ 11,382.8 million excluding the contribution of partners - planned for 'green' energies in the next three years.

At the end of 2023, the energy group had 1,793 MW offshore installed and another 3,000 MW that will come into operation before 2027.
