Delegation of the Arab Emirates seeks commercial collaboration with Ecuador

A trade delegation made up of 30 businessmen and state officials from the United Arab Emirates, led by the Minister of Commerce, Thani Al Zeyoudi, plans to meet this Monday, April 22, with the president of Ecuador, Daniel Noboa, and several ministers in order to explore opportunities for collaboration and joint development, in addition to a possible start of negotiations for a trade agreement.

Al Zeyoudi's visit was agreed last February during the 13th WTO Ministerial Conference in Abu Dhabi, where the Arab official expressed his interest to the Minister of Production, Foreign Trade, Investment and Fisheries of Ecuador, Sonsoles García. of the United Arab Emirates in sectors such as agribusiness, tourism, mining and renewable energies. For this reason, a meeting is expected with the heads of the portfolios of Agriculture and Livestock, Tourism, Energy and Mines, Transportation and Public Works, as well as the Secretariat of Public-Private Partnerships.

Meanwhile, after his arrival, on April 21, the Minister of Commerce of the United Arab Emirates met with Minister García and meetings were held with sectors with high export potential, such as the flower and blueberry industries, in Cotopaxi and Pichincha, respectively, demonstrating in a tangible way the quality and sustainability of Ecuadorian production.

In 2023, Ecuador exported US$757,000 in blueberries mainly to destinations such as the United States, the European Union and Singapore, according to figures from the Ministry of Production, Foreign Trade, Investments and Fisheries. The provinces where this product is produced are: Manabí, Cotopaxi, Santa Elena, El Oro, Loja, Carchi, Imbabura, Pichincha, Tungurahua and Azuay.

The Minister of Commerce of the United Arab Emirates, together with businessmen from their country, witnessed the blueberry production process, which is carried out with the highest standards of quality and environmental sustainability. "We hope to open new markets for its positioning, considering that this superfruit represents nutrition, diversification and employment for Ecuadorians," said the minister.

Regarding the bilateral exchange between the United Arab Emirates and Ecuador, according to official figures, in 2023 Ecuador exported US$600 million in products to that country while it imported US$14.9 million, resulting in a positive trade balance for Ecuador that could grow. with a commercial agreement.
